Underlayment Felt
- Home is completely dried in with felt and overlaps 4”minimum on horizontal seams
- No vertical seams allowed on underlayment
- Felt must go up 3" on vertical walls and chimneys.
- Follow the diagram for felt and drip edge application.
- Felt must go underneath overhanging soffit to protect from wind driven rain.
- Roof with a pitch of 3/12 and below has 2 layers of felt or 1 layer of Self Adhered at 50% overlap.
- Sufficient enough 1in. plastic nail caps are used to hold down felt in the wind, typically spaced around 12”.
- No wrinkles in felt. Wrinkles in felt will cause humps in the shingles.
- Valley metal should be applied directly to roof Deck
- Self-adhered (Ice and Water Shield) should be put directly on top of the valley metal.
- When drip edge on a rake and meets center of valley, drip edge must be stripped off with self adhered.
