Roofing Quality Control
- Starter shingles used for the first row.
- Shingles should overlap min 1/4" off of drip edge maximum of 3/4"
- Each shingle must have 4 nails (no smaller than 1.25”).
- Shingle horizontal lines are straight and cover nails.
- 3 tab shingle used on ridges only.
- A nail in the middle of a shingle (or field) called a shiner is unacceptable- REPLACE SHINGLE
- Ridge and hip caps are straight and have 4 nails, no raised or damaged shingles, do not nail on tar strip.
- Roofing nails on the ridge cap need to be covered in roofing tar, not clear silicon.
